No one knows rats like a New Yorker, and city born-and-bred composer John Corigliano is no exception. Corigliano, inspired by poet Robert Browning’s telling of the Pied Piper legend, crafted his masterful Pied Piper Fantasy around this most feared four-legged motif. With "piper" Alexa Still on flute and tin whistle, this acclaimed concerto in an unrestricted imagining of an age-old fantasy. The evening closes with Berlioz’s Romantic masterpiece Symphonie Fantastique ­- a hallucinatory musical expedition into heartache, psychedelic dreams, and macabre fantasies.
