About This Show

YY tells the story of Stelly, the first child created from the genetic material of two men. When she falls ill at the age of thirteen, Stelly’s dads pull her out of her happy Quaker school in Park Slope and spends the last year of her life home-schooling her. Between her lessons, Stelly passionately binges on television – zigzagging from Henry James to Jerry Springer, Dante to the Home Shopping Network. Meanwhile, Christian
fundamentalists have caught wind of Stelly’s illness and have zeroed in on the family as their latest theater of (culture) war. Stelly and her dads must confront which is the greater threat: the enemy without, or the flesh-and-blood bonds that unite the family within. The play asks a simple question: even if our kids were biologically “ours,” would it be any easier for gay families in America to feel our children are our own, and not subject to recall with a change in political or religious sentiment?
