Written, choreographed, and performed by Paula Hunter, and featuring installation by Kwi-Hae Kim, The Unexpected opens with a woman baking cookies when, apropos of nothing, a car rams her house. The unexpected impact sends her mind spinning through memories, desires, fears and longings, to the accompaniment of Johnny Mathis, Chopin, Rosemary Clooney, as she grapples with the meaning of this seemingly pointless intrusion. The Unexpected is an organized stream of consciousness in which past and present become completely intertwined, and the funny and sometimes scary vagaries of modern life are explored.
