About This Show

CRS & Dharma Road present The Smallest Country, two evenings of physical theater and music improvisation with Shinichi Momo Koga, Cassie Terman, and Keren Rosenbaum.

Shinichi Momo Koga, a featured performer of the recent New York Butoh Festival and called by some the Fred Astaire of Butoh, returns to New York to play in a more improvised, theatrical form with Action Theatre maven Cassie Terman and avant-garde musician Keren Rosenbaum. The performers enter the empty stage and build an evening length work from the first moments and gestures. Terman and Koga play in a highly physical realm that includes sound/music and language to explore an often surreal and dreamlike, yet utterly immediate world together. Comic dilemma and the pathos of human frailty are woven into a cohesive, wild, delicate, and unpredictable whole.

“Mr. Koga and Ms. Terman are sure, charismatic performers. The sturdily subversive Ms. Rosenbaum is an inspired choice of [musical] accomplice. May the three soon perform again together.” — Jennifer Dunning, New York Times, 1/9/06
