About this show

Marlowe's The Jew of Malta - Barabas the Jew is the richest man in all of Malta. When the Turks invade, demanding the ten-years debt the Governor owes, all of Barabas' goods are seized upon and his house turned into a nunnery. Barabas vows revenge on all those who took his wealth, on the Christians trying to steal his daughter away from him and, eventually, anyone with a pulse. Rarely performed, Marlowe's revenge tragedy is by turns shocking and hilarious, a keen exploration of corruption in all religions. The Jew of Malta plays in repertory with Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice.
