The Drilling CompaNY: HONOR, part one is a carefully woven collection of eight shorts commissioned for the theme of honor. The centerpiece is a play by Brian Dykstra, New York’s newest enfant terrible, that burns the flag.
Dykstra’s work centers on a young man being reprimanded for having
a can of kerosene and a flag in his locker. In the course of the work, the young man excoriates the establishment of the school and its rules.
Stephen Bittrich’s new work, Duty, Honor Country places two American soldiers and an Iraqi prisoner in a deserted Iraq compoud.
Bittrich wrote the work a month before the AbuGahrib prison abuse stories
broke out so his play has literally grown more timely with age. It’s directed by Broadway veteran Edwin Owens.
Other playwrights in the evening include the award winning Andrea Moon,
Scott Baker, Joanna Cherensky, Allison Moore and newcomer Don Carter.
