About This Show

The Boxcar Children is a musical based on the book which began Gertrude Chandler Warner’s popular adventure series about four resourceful brothers and sisters. The play opens in a small town in America at the peak of the Great Depression. When their parents are tragically killed while looking for work, Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny Alden find themselves homeless. Faced only with the prospect of living with their wealthy grandfather, whom they’ve never met and imagine to be an ogre, they fearfully make the trip to find him ? but flee when they learn that he plans to send them to separate boarding schools.
