About This Show

CRS & Dharma Road presents Scarab Tale, written by Sita Mani, performed by Sita Mani with Sarita Chowdhury, and developed with Fay Simpson.

Scarab Tale is a story, and as many stories are, it is about a journey. This is the journey of one woman, told through the lens of her relationship with men. Told in the presence of fear but hopefully not through it. Told with truth. Told with laughter. Told as it is travelled, with the distasteful but infinitely precious companionship of the mythic Scarab.

Sita Mani has been a Performing Artist (with a significant focus on dance) working in India and the United States for twenty years. She has performed and taught in both countries. She has Dance certification from The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and Acting certification from The Michael Howard studio in NY, where she currently continues her path of learning. Sita is a licensed Massage Therapist in NY. Her training includes massage, Reiki and Shiatsu. She has also been a student of yoga for some years. Her interest lies essentially (through her own learning, performing, teaching and healing work) in the recovery of body, mind and spirit, as one inter-connected, fully functional organ; the dissolution of fear and the eventual full, free-flowing and effective expression of an Authentic Self.

The teachers that have largely contributed to and influenced Sita and her work are Fay Simpson (founder of The Lucid Body Technique), Martin Sauermann (The Voice work of Peter Elkus), Jean McClelland (Alexander Technique), the work of Louise Hay, and the teachings of Siddhartha Buddha and Lao Tzu.

Sita’s choreography has been seen in NYC at Interboro Rep, Riverside Church, Red Shoes at One Arm Red, and the Evolving Arts Theatre, among others, as well as in India.

Scarab Tale is presented in conjunction with The National Asian American Theater Festival.
