About This Show

Elevator Repair Service presents a workshop production of No Great Society, featuring Susie Sokol and Ben Williams, directed by John Collins.

No Great Society begins as a friendly interview, punctuated by the interviewer’s comically inept piano playing. Soon after inviting his subject to read from her book, the interviewer finds his interview hijacked and before long, he’s unceremoniously ejected from the room.

In a monologue that is in turns lucid and delirious, Susie Sokol tears up the stage, conjuring the story of an evening of jazz, drink and philosophical conversations between a group of beatnicks and a local bishop. Meanwhile Ben Williams, as Steve Allen, lurks in the shadows between attempts to re-start the interview and stop Sokol from turning the evening into ERS’ first solo show.
