About This Show

The biblical book of Job. Remixed.

Two stories. Two turntables. Ready? Remix. Hoover Records is the producer of the biggest, illest, baddest and phattest hip-hop in the west. At the top, label president J. Hoover is pitted against Job, his right hand man, in a test of loyalty, compassion and friendship. At the bottom, in the jingle department, it’s MC Cain against his brotha and fellow rapper MC Abel in their struggle for success. Sable & Batalion hold it down by playing all the parts of the story, getting mad support from an ensemble of breakers, an RnB vocalist and a scratch DJ. It’s the Old (School) Testament retold as an allegory of contemporary corporate life in the music biz.

J.O.B. The Hip-Hopera features book and lyrics by Jerome Sable & Eli Batalion with music by Jerome Sable, Eli Batalion & Joe Barrucco. This NYC premiere is presented as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival.
