About This Show

This shared evening of two new dance pieces juxtaposes the work of choreographers Jennifer Allen and Kimberly Bartosik.

Choreographer, performer, sound and video designer Jennifer Allen is known for emphasizing pedestrian movement and incorporating sculpture, video and other visual elements in her work. She premieres her newly completed work, Open, Rachel, which investigates the childhood of a young female dancer in New York and is a meditation on what it means to remain “open” of heart and mind in a contemporary world.

Kimberly Bartosik presents a new commissioned work that reflects her interests in exploring time and space, taking influence from popular literature and cinema, and rigorously exploring movement, sound and visual design. Bartosik’s site-specific performances often possess a dream-like intensity, expressed through her physically intense and sometimes violent or erotically suggestive movement.
