About This Show

Downtown Urban Theater Festival presents a double-bill of Emma Terese’s Freedom and Mel Nieves’s Karen & Tomas (I Touch Myself).

The first play follows a girl named Freedom, who grew up on the streets of NYC. Terese is an actress, writer and producer who has appeared in various feature films, television and theatre productions. This play was encouraged in association with Paul Calderon and his acting workshop.

They smashed into each other’s lives like a head-on collision on the interstate, both desperately seeking to close fresh wounds. Now in their final six hours together Karen and Tomas cut open, dissect and finally heal those very same wounds that turned them into lovers, but not they would soon discover a couple. Nieves, a co-winner of a Best Short Play Award at the 2005 DUTF, is a producer, director and playwright and also member of The LAByrinth Theatre Company.

Part of the Downtown Urban Theater Festival.
