Genesis Repertory Ensemble presents Christopher Marlowe’s preeminent parable about the wages of sin, Doctor Faustus. The production is updated and presents Faustus in a Sodom and Gomorra like elitist future where the world leaders are ruled by those that make them beautiful. Faustus is a female fashion designer surrounded by demonic mannequins. Madame Faustus, having mastered the leaders of this world, attempts to conquer the next world. The seven deadly sins appear during a runway fashion show, hard-rock has replaced religion, and androgyny is a demand. Lucifer provides Faustus with a traveling companion – Mephistophilis, a living mannequin who becomes strangely attracted to her. In such a world, “strangely” is the only way attraction can be.
