About This Show

Star-crossed lovers, rumors of unfaithfulness, intrigue at the Court, and a battle for the supremacy of Britain. Shakespeare at Love Creek (SaLC) unveils all this and more when it presents William Shakespeare’s rarely-staged work Cymbeline. Directed by Beverly Bullock. All is not well at the Court of Cymbeline, King of Britain, in the First Century, A.D. His lovely daughter Imogen has secretly married Posthumus, a noble fellow, but one well below his bride’s station. This infuriates the King, who banishes Posthumus from their land. The Queen, Imogen’s stepmother, and the real power behind the throne, is none too happy either, as she wanted Imogen to marry her oaf of a son, Cloten. In revenge, the Queen plans to poison her step-daughter. However, the best laid plans of Queens and lovers often go awry as servants who know more than their masters scheme to make everything turn out all right in the end. Add to this Posthumus’ firm belief in Imogen’s faithfulness to him, (so much so he wagers an Italian named Iachimo will have no luck in seducing her); Britain’s attempt to break free of Roman rule, and a “sleeping beauty” plot-twist.

This production is an Equity showcase.
