About this show

The real words, the real songs, the real heart of a country divided. A new musical that incorporates the real words from the diaries and speeches of five actual people from the Civil War period with the actual music of the period, including "Amazing Grace," "Beautiful Dreamer," "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again" and "Dixie." It is a heartfelt, human and balanced remembrance by Jim Harris that we feel will be a meaningful part of the upcoming commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, which starts next year. And it features inspiring vocal arrangements by Mark Hayes, one of the best-known and loved arrangers of choral music in the country. You'll meet a slave who became Mrs. Lincoln's confidante. A Southern couple separated by war. A Yankee professor turned military hero. A plantation owner with a conflicted conscience. In anticipation of the coming Civil War Sesquicentennial, a musical remembrance by James Harris inspired by his great uncle's actual diary, featuring songs of the period in new arrangements by Mark Hayes, one of the most popular arrangers of choral music in America.
