New York City
Theater et al resurrects Michel de Gelderode’s scandalous 1928 ode to spiritual excess and brings its comic, viscious, and faithfully profane rendition to the fourth annual New York International Fringe Festival. The ensemble adapts Chronicles of Hell to suit its broad, physical, and above-all strikingly visual approach. Expect carousing homosexual priests, riotous overindulgence, a shocking Christ-like resurrection, and an unepectedly profound (and bloody) confirmation of faith in the face of a world overcome by spiritual amorality.
