Celtic Cross: Solo Sorties Into Homophobia is comprised of four monologues inspired by a curious combination of individual tarot cards interacting with the playwright’s ephemeral emotional states to create characters speaking directly to an audience. “Six of Cups” follows a progressive schoolteacher running for the school board in pre-Columbine-Massacre Littleton, Colorado. “Three of Swords” follows a proudly devoted Puerto Rican gay man of 45 who has quietly loved another fellow from afar. In “Ace of Pentacles,” a corporate attorney finds her humanity amids the constant detritus of the business world. In “Two of Wands,” a serial killer who has committed himself to “homophobicide,” dispatches his 38th penitent to hell. Richard Morrell writes and directs.
