About This Show

In his adaptation of Sophocles’s classic play Antigone, Anouilh challenged 1940s Vichy France with an enduring story about resistance: a young girl defies a king in order to honor burial rites for her brother. This ancient tale of one person’s stand against the unjust policies of the State resonated then, and continues with fresh relevance now.
