About This Show

Mariana Bekerman Dance Company presents A Goyish Affair with a Twist. This dance-theater piece was inspired by Bekerman’s life and includes tribal rituals mixed with clown-like 1930’s Broadway pizzazz! Using popular songs of two cultures, it explores layers of cultural and familial nuances when couples from different ethnic backgrounds decide to marry. Specifically, this piece focuses on the interaction of Russian-Jews and Latin Americans and the emotional reactions of family member and friends.

MARIANA BEKERMAN’s fusion of classical dance with NYC’s underground dance style has led her to create high-spirited movement. The concert will consist of several sections which introduce Bekerman’s movement style, ballet & modern jazz combined with underground “house / vogue dance”. It too, experiments with Bekerman’s current intent of exploring larger group works for a concert setting.
