New York Theatre Workshop presents The Misanthrope, written by Molière in a version by Tony Harrison, and directed by Ivo van Hove.
Molière’s classic comedy is about the absurdities of social conventions and pretensions. As he did with his production of Hedda Gabler, van Hove seeks to revitalize The Misanthrope with a fresh, modern perspective – viewing Molière’s text (presented in a version by Tony Harrison) through the lens of our society in which the traditional social fabric has frayed and virtual relationships can be deleted with the simple push of a button.
