About This Show

Ensemble Studio Theatre presents Shatter — four groundbreaking one-acts by four break out directors.

As a lead up to its annual Marathon of One-Acts, Ensemble Studio Theatre (William Carden, Artistic Director) presents a week of world premiere short plays written and helmed by its four Directors-in-Residence. The production, collectively titled Shatter, includes the world premiere adaptation of Richard Matheson’s The Last Day.

The four one-acts will run together each night, giving audiences a chance to see four vastly different, yet equally compelling, directing styles. The plays are:

Richard Matheson’s The Last Day
In his world premiere adaptation of legendary horror/sci-fi author Richard Matheson’s (I Am Legend, Duel, Stir of Echoes) riveting short story, Justin Quinn Pelegano explores the emotionally-charged reactions of six New Yorkers facing extinction.

Antigone Noir
The dark worlds of film noir and Greek tragedy intersect in Destiny Lilly’s modern musical adaptation of a Sophocles classic.

Eyez Watchin’
Andre´ Ford’s Eyez Watchin’ tells the story a distinguished pastor and pillar of the African-American community who attempts to pick up a young hustler well versed in the life of the streets.

Mali and the Arc of the Covenant
An absurdist look at the New York dating scene…and religious relic thievery. Written and directed by Andrew Bergh.
