My Life As A Fairy Tale

Director Chen Shi-Zheng (The Peony Pavilion, Festival ’99, and two other Festival works) partners with alt-rock singer-composer Stephin Merritt (Chen’s collaborator on The Orphan of Zhao for Festival 2003) for the world premiere of My Life As A Fairy Tale. Inspired by and drawn from Hans Christian Andersen’s life and fairytales, known and unknown, with libretto by Erik Ehn, this fantastical music-theater piece explores the darker impulses that infused Andersen’s writings.

This Lincoln Center Festival co-commission is part of the international celebration of the bicentenary of the birth of the great Danish writer.
