For the tenth time, a production by eminent film and theater director Ingmar Bergman comes to BAM (Bergman?s exclusive American theatrical venue). This spring season brings the U.S. production premiere of Schiller?s Maria Stuart?the classic play about the struggle for power between England?s Protestant Queen Elizabeth I and the Catholic Mary Queen of Scots. The focal point of Bergman?s staging is the relationship between the two queens. Although Schiller?s work includes only one meeting between the two, both Pernilla August as the brooding Mary and Lena Endre as the elegant Elizabeth are on stage for virtually the entire play, generally with one of the actors shadowing the other.
Performed in Swedish with simultaneous English translation ($5 headset rental w/valid ID)
