About This Show

Luna, an evening of dance choreographed by Max Luna III, is presented by the Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America. Mr. Luna’s choreography is a dynamic blend shaped by his intimate association with Alvin Ailey and the Ailey company, as well as his roots in the Filipino dance and artistic community. The program will include a premiere to live music from renowned Filipino musician Michael Dadap, as well as Cold Song (music by Klaus Nomi), Max Luna III’s tribute to Alvin Ailey; American Rhapsody (music by George and Ira Gershwin), which was origianlly commissioned by Teatro Nuovo and premiered at the opening for the International Dance Festival in Vignale, Italy; and Tinig Ng Lupa (Sounds of the Earth) (music by Pinikpikan), a piece based on the rituals of tribes that live in the northern mountains of the Philippines, called the Igorot.

On Saturday, September 23 there is a special benefit performance at 3:00 PM to support two Filipino foundations that train talented impoverished children in the art of dance.
