About this show

One of the world's great Jazz musicians, Cyrus Chestnut began his musical training at age five and made his first public performance at his father's Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Maryland at age seven. Chestnut took his artistic enthusiasm to the Peabody Preparatory Institute at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Ma., where he graduated in 1995. Later, after working with such Jazz notables as Jon Hendricks, Terrence Blanchard, Donald Harrison and Wynton Marsalis, Chestnut launched his recording career as a leader with REVELATION in his Atlantic debut. Accolades have followed Chestnut's work ever since. Cyrus' piano style, rooted in the African-American traditions, exhibits a deep knowledge of the history of Jazz piano. The influence of Art Tatum, Hank Jones, Red Garland and Tommy Flanagan, combined with other musical concepts has blended his work into a mature, extremely lyrical and personal style. Without doubt Cyrus is one of the major forces in the evolution of Jazz piano in the 21st century.
