Brazilian Contemporary Music

Brazilian Contemporary Music features original music by Composer/Percussionist Caito Marcondes and Composer/Pianist Eva Gomyde. Audiences will hear two different musical visions – while Ms. Gomyde works her improvisational tapestry on the piano, plus bass and percussion, Mr. Marcondes makes use of an ensemble consisting of a classical string quartet, trombone and percussion. The groups’ sound has been described as "a colorful focus on the boundless limits of musical instruments and the expanding ideas through the classical/popular border, with deep attachments to rich Brazilian melodies and rhythms." Marcondes has been named by legendary drummer/percussionist Airto Moreira the ‘Villa-Lobos of percussion’ and a force on the music scene for many years.
