About This Show

Directed and choreographed by Melissa Briggs, Book Dances draws upon one scene from each of four classic novels: Anna Karenina (Leo Tolstoy). The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand), East of Eden (John Steinbeck), and Franny and Zooey (J.D. Salinger). Through choreographed duets, four distinct relationships come under a magnifying glass, as viewers are given a window into the character’s inner lives. The audience, divided into small groups, will move through the church complex, viewing each of the four duets in a specific location – a narrow passage leading into the sactuary, an elegant parlor with tall windows and richly painted walls, a dark, hidden room in the under croft, and the bright expanse of the chapel.
