Handel's cantata portrays Agrippina at the moment she discovers that her son, Emperor Nero, is planning to have her murdered, and traces her fluctuating emotions of vengeful enragement and maternal vulnerability. The program, which condenses an enormous operatic drama into a chamber music evening, also includes pieces by baroque composers Corelli, Muffat, Geminiani, Scarlatti, and Stradella. Guest soprano Nell Snaidas portrays Agrippina's tumultuous character. Ms. Snaidas has been a featured soloist in numerous festivals, operas and concert halls including Lincoln Center Summerfest, Alice Tully, Town Hall, Regensburg Tage/Alter Musik Fest, Internacional Festival de la Zarzuela in Mexico, and L'Internazionale Festivale di Scarlatti in Sicily. Operatic performances include "Lisetta" in Gli Equivoci nel Sembiante at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, "Despina" in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte at Caramoor with the Orchestra of St. Luke and "Valletto" in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea with Festival Vancouver under the direction of Stephen Stubbs/Paul O'Dette.
