The award-winning and critically acclaimed Godlight Theatre Company presents
George Orwell’s 1984, adapted for the stage by Alan Lyddiard in co-operation with The Estate of George Orwell and Northern Stage, Newcastle Playhouse.

Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith rewrites the past to suit the needs of The Party. He inwardly rebels against the regime that controls him and falls in love with fellow worker, Julia, a fully paid up member of The Party’s militant Anti-Sex League. But they soon discover that the ultimate casualty of torture is love, and the true price of freedom is betrayal. From the creative team at Godlight Theatre Company that produced A Clockwork Orange and The Third Man, comes a brutal new stage version of 1984. Directed by Joe Tantalo, Orwell’s harrowing vision of society controlled by Newspeak, Doublethink and the all-seeing, all-knowing Big Brother has been spiked with adrenalin and digitally remastered for the 24 hour surveillance society of the 21st Century.
