When 1st generation Sicilian-American Rosa falls in love with Jewish Aaron and becomes pregnant out of wedlock, her father disowns her. Through a painful next 20 years, they raise their daughter Barbara without knowledge of her maternal heritage. When Barbara seeks out her grandparents via a slick private detective, a beautiful new relationship is born and she, along with her boyfriend, plot to reunite her mother with her parents. They’ll all have to weather a new twist; Barbara falls in love with a Neapolitan-American. The traditions of Sicilians and Neapolitans can’t help but clash. Is it “gravy” or “sauce” and why do Neapolitans insist on cutting off vowels at the end of words?
