Westport Country Playhouse Gala

About This Show

Tony, Emmy, and multi-Golden Globe Award nominee Matthew Morrison headlines Westport Country Playhouse’s 2017 fundraising gala. Morrison is a versatile actor recognized for his work onstage and on-screen. He most recently starred as J.M. Barrie in the Broadway musical Finding Neverland. For this role, Morrison received two Drama Desk Award nominations and won the category of Favorite Actor in a Musical in the Broadway.com Audience Awards. Morrison was also nominated for a Tony for his role in The Light in the Piazza and received a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for 10 Million Miles. Additionally, he starred in the Tony-winning revival of South Pacific at Lincoln Center Theater.

As for the gala’s program? A cocktail party will begin at 5:45pm, followed by a 7pm presentation of the 2017 Playhouse Leadership Award to longtime supporter Ann Sheffer of Westport, Connecticut, and Palm Springs, California. Scheduled for 7:15pm is a performance by Morrison; dinner will be at 8:30pm. A silent auction will be ongoing throughout the evening. The gala theme, “moonlight over venice,” is a nod to the playhouse’s autumn production of Romeo and Juliet. The theme is meant to evoke mystery, elegance, and enchantment. Accordingly, the gala décor will feature Venetian masks, hanging lanterns, strands of twinkle lights, jewel tones, and an Italian ambience. Attire is festive (black tie optional).
