Broward County’s Symphony of the Americas, Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese, Artistic Dir., presents a return engagement of the Arpeggione Chamber Orchestra from Austria, for its Summerfest 2007.

Orchestral concerts feature the music of Geminiani, Sarasate, Rossini and Astor Piazzolla with featured violin soloist, Alejandro Drago. Performances are highlighted by the Argentine tangos of Astor Piazzolla – featuring Argentine piano duo, Maria Laura Fagilde & Ricardo Roel. Summerfest has commissioned and will premiere the work, "A Prayer at Twilight", by Edward Hart, American composer in residence at U.of South Carolina.

Summerfest, presented by American Airlines, annually hosts an acclaimed European string orchestra for a one month cultural exchange residency throughout Florida with an extended tour to Central and South America, joined by selected members of the Symphony of the Americas, and funded in part by the State of Florida and Broward Cultural Council. The Symphony of the Americas is Broward County’s only professional orchestra, and is proud to have the Broward Center for the Performing Arts as its performance home.

The festival spans July 15th to August 26th, with nearly 30 performances. throughout Florida on the east and west coasts, from Miami north to Melbourne and continuing with cultural exchange performances in Central & South America including Panama, Aruba, Nicaragua and Argentina. Activities include performances, master classes, and educational outreach, taking the masterful sounds of this great ensemble to audiences in corners of the world who have never before experienced the exhilaration of live performances of great composers.

With repertoire ranging from Baroque to Contemporary music, the Arpeggione Chamber Orchestra is renowned for its virtuosity and first-rate soloists. The orchestra appears regularly throughout Europe in the countries of Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, France and Russia. They have performed to great acclaim in the famed Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Grand Philharmonic Hall of St. Petersburg, Tonhalle in Zurich, and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. They also appear regularly at the esteemed Bregenz Music Festival.
