About This Show

The American Repertory Theatre presents Three Farces and a Funeral, a new adaptation of Chekhov one-acts by Robert Brustein. Before he wrote his naturalistic masterpieces, the famed Russian playwright made his name with a series of one-act comedies that have delighted audiences for more than a century. The vaudevilles combine Chekhov’s keen social observation and a sparkling satire to send up the rituals of courtship and marriage. The Proposal, The Bear, and The Wedding Reception comprise this trio of works, along with excerpts from the playwright’s poignantly romantic love letters. Yuri Yeremin directs.
