The first annual Susan Glaspell Play Marathon will take place on Saturday June 26 from 12 noon until 12 midnight with a break for dinner. The Marathon was inspired by Cheryl Black’s book, Women in Provincetown and is supported by The Susan Glaspell Society. Scholars from around the world including Tel Aviv and Brazil have responded to the idea with enthusiasm. Susan Glaspell is best known as co-founder, with her husband, of the legendary Provincetown Players. That’s where many of Eugene O’Neill’s plays had their first airings as well as her own play Trifles, which is widely published in its short story format as A Jury of Her Peers. The plays to be read in this year’s marathon are The Verge, The Outside, Trifles, Inheritors, and the 1931 Pulitzer Prize winning play Alison’s House. Part of the proceeds from the Marathon will be contributed to the Provincetown Public Library.
