Off Broadway begins its Monday Evening Author Series hosted by Jimmy Tingle, featuring such acclaimed authors as James Carroll on Oct 11, Nick Flynn on Oct.18th, Beratunde R. Thurston on Oct. 25 and on November 1, Howard Zinn. The authors will be discussing their most recent works with the evening’s format to include a question and answer period and a chance for audience members to purchase their latest works.

Monday October 11: James Carroll
James Carroll is the best selling author of the National Book Award-winning memoir An American Requiem; Constantine’s Sword, a history of Christian anti-Semitism; and ten novels. He lectures widely on war and peace, and on Jewish-Christian-Muslim reconciliation. He lives in Boston, Massachusetts. His new book is CRUSADE: Chronicles of an Unjust War

Monday October 18: Nick Flynn
Nick Flynn is the author of Blind Huber, A Note Slipped Under the Door, and Some Ether, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and winner of the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Nation, Fence, The New York Times Book Review, The Paris Review, Provincetown Arts, and on National Public Radio’s This American Life. In “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City” Flynn examines his rocky, complicated relationship with his father; a relationship where the son must become the parent to the father.

Monday October 25: Baratunde R. Thurston Baratunde R. Thurston (www.baratunde.com) is one of the hottest emerging young comics in New England. He writes regularly for his blog at goodCRIMETHINK.com, and his words have also appeared in The Boston Metro, The Harvard Crimson, ModernHumorist.com and blackpeopleloveus.com. Sometimes, he even hosts a talk radio show. Baratunde lives in Somerville, Mass. At the wise old age of 27, comedian, writer and vigilante pundit Baratunde Thurston discusses this and more in his debut book: Better Than Crying: Poking Fun at Politics, the Press & Pop Culture.

Monday November 1: Howard Zinn
Beloved historian and activist Howard Zinn is the author of the best-selling People’s History of the United States and many other books, including The Zinn Reader and most recently, Artists in Times of War On November 19 he will release Voices of A People’s History of the United States, a companion to his seminal A People’s History of the United States.

Appropriate for ages 12+.
