An Homage to Vaclav Havel is an evening celebrating the playwright/dissident’s life, with Robert Brustein and Paul Benedict. Written in 1978 during the long, dark period when his works were banned, Protest presents a scene between two writers and friends, Vanek and Stanek — the former a dissident, the latter an establishment screenwriter. It’s a subtle morality tale of friendship and betrayal, and the peril to human ethics and human rights under totalitarianism. Carol Rocamora directs.
