Based on a series of articles that appeared in the Weekly World News tabloid, Bat Boy: The Musical is about a half boy, half bat that is found in a West Virginia cave. Adopted by the town’s vet, Bat Boy gets an education and falls in love with the vet’s daughter to the shock and horror of everyone in town. The story ends, like all good interspecies romances, with tragedy. Laurence O’Keefe’s score uses rap, rock, gospel and tango to parody all of musical theater.
