About This Show

Santa Monica Playhouse presents U.K.’s renowned Playbox Theatre in the American Premiere of The White Album, a fictional love story fusing the stories and possibilities surrounding the making of The Beatles’ The White Album and the tragic consequences of Charles Manson’s misinterpretation of the lyrics. The show features as many scenes (thirty) as there are tracks on the album, blending 1968 Hollywood with the surreal mind trip of Miles, an obsessive fan. Not a Beatles tribute show nor a nostalgic 1960s musical mystery tour, The White Album is a contemporary drama that uses a surreal and thrilling style of inventive design, projections, sound and theatre to bring audiences to the history, context and content of a classic record. Called “one of the most unusual works from Playbox Theatre so far,” by the company’s Nikki Claire Cross, this multifaceted theatrical event was conceived by Giles Croft with text by Michael Pinchbeck.

In addition to The White Album, members of the Playbox Youth Conservatory are scheduled to present Club White on Sunday, October 22. This companion piece is a family-friendly cabaret reflecting the songs and mood of the era surrounding The White Album.

Due to mature themes and language, no one under the age of 14 will be admitted to The White Album. Club White, however, is family-friendly and encourages audiences of all ages.
