About This Show

Born a slave, Sojourner Truth took her freedom and traveled throughout America speaking (to both black and white audiences) about her faith in God, the pursuit of freedom and the need for all people to work together in unity to make change.

She gained national attention through her speeches and lectures. In addition, her meetings with President Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony (as well as her volunteer work at Freeman’s hospitals during the civil war), made her one of the 19th Century’s most admired abolitionists and women’s rights advocates. Sojourner is written and directed by Les Wieder.
