Can a key to the corporate bathroom, an Employee of the Month plaque, and a shiny executive pen transform a listless nine-to-fiver into a salacious corporate henchwoman? Can one too many mom-baked, low-fat mincemeat pies tip a wobbly daughter over the edge? Barbara Brooks is just another anonymous face set adrift inside a sea of corporate cubicles until her alliterating boss plucks her from the company roster and appoints her the company firer. Lured by the seduction of her new power, Barbara morphs in appearance and attitude – from reluctant pawn to ruthless executioner – while forsaking friendships and shunning her low-fat, pie-happy mother.
On the opposite end of the moral compass sits Barbara’s ditsy but loyal friend, Jenna George, a female Fred Flintstone who treats work as a necessary evil to pay for drinks and sashay through the singles scene. Unable to shake Barbara from her capitalist hypnosis Jenna instigates an office coup with the aid of Barbara’s hard-charging protégé, Christy Katrina, and timid assistant, Luis Colon, to hopefully hand Barbara enough rope to hang herself but save their friendship. Or, has Barbara’s soul surpassed salvation? Ready, Aim, You’re Fired marks playwright Jeremy Kehoe’s follow-up to last year’s controversial Killing Russell Crowe.
