About This Show

Calling it a “serious comedy,” George F. Walker, a cab-driver-turned-playwright, explores a time when young women were apt to cut their hair short and young men had taken to wearing theirs long. Set in 1860s Russia, Nothing Sacred follows Bazarov, a young rebel who effects reconciliation even as he seeks to overturn sacredly held principles of the establishment. Walker’s play is based on the novel Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev; it is directed by Martin Benson.

South Coast Repertory offers a “Pay-What-You-Will” performance on Saturday, September 9, at 2:30 PM and an ASL interpreted performance for the deaf community on Saturday, October 7, at 2:30 PM.

A free post show discussion with cast members led by the SCR Literary Department will follow the performances on Wednesday, September 13 and Tuesday, September 19.

To further explore Nothing Sacred, before or after seeing the production, SCR offers “Inside the Season” on Saturday, September 16, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM hosted by Linda Sullivan Baity. Open to everyone, this informal, in-depth discussion is $10.00; tickets may be purchased in advance or on the morning of the event at the SCR Box Office, by calling 714-708-5555 or online at www.scr.org.
