About This Show

Set in modern-day Los Angeles, Le Bistro Cafe is about a disastrous blind date in an upscale French restaurant that has only recently opened for business. The cast of characters includes figures familiar to the L.A. scene: soap opera divas, actor-waiters, Mexican busboys, and people trying to find love in a city where nothing seems real. The action revolves around a scheming waiter and waitress who make a bet about the outcome of a customer’s blind date and then plot to ensure that he or she will win the bet. The bossy restaurant manager, Pierre, is oblivious to his staff’s machinations. His main concern is to impress a food critic, whose review could make or break the restaurant. The critic’s on-again, off-again girlfriend, Zsazsa, a fading soap opera star, conveniently shows up at the restaurant, where her teenage daughter meets the busboy Jorge, the only restaurant worker who has any common sense. With visual and verbal humor that has pulse on the L.A. social scene and with a lively jazz-influenced score, this production promises to be an enjoyable evening of musical theater.
