About This Show

Howard Barker’s provocative drama, Judith: A Parting From the Body, is a story of transgression and transcendence that reworks the apocryphal story of Judith and Holofernes.

The Assyrian General Holofernes has conquered every Jewish city but one. In the morning, he will conquer the final one, and thereby siege Jerusalem. But Judith, a wealthy Hebrew widow, plans to sneak into the Babylonian camp, seduce Holofernes, and bring his head back to her people, saving all of her kind. Over the course of one night, the mighty general and the greatest heroine in Judeo-Christian history battle it out in a private war over sex, power, Israel, and ultimately, love.
