About This Show

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone is the Los Angeles revival of the 3rd in Wilson’s ten-play cycle. Set in a boarding house in Pittsburgh during August, 1911, African Americans from the deep and near south come north in search of loved ones and a cultural identity that was repressed by centuries of slavery, Jim Crow laws, discrimination, and Joe Turner’s indentures. Estrangement and loneliness turn into connection and community in one of Mr. Wilson’s most beautiful, moving and haunting plays.
