About This Show

Dominicanish is a non-linear show that incorporates poetry, dance and music as well as the spoken word in performance. It’s reflective to some degree of the experiences of writer/performer Josefina Baez. Born in La Ramona, Dominican Republic in 1960, she emigrated to New York. She finds herself belonging to both places. Flowing from one cultural home to another, she finds her face contorted, as this Spanish speaker attempts to speak English for the first time. Her performance includes Kuchipudi (dance of India) and soul music, as this wandering soul journeys through one culture to another.
