About This Show

In 1961 at of 42, Jewish New York lawyer William Kunstler began defending followers of Martin Luther King, southern black freedom Riders, and getting them out of jail for free. This most unheard-of and risky practice catapulted Mr. Kunstler into being one of the most sought after attorneys by revolutionaries of the time. Kunstler?s turning point culminates in the Great Conspiracy Trial of 1969 where Kunstler defended social revolutionaries Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, anti-Vietnam War protestor David Dellinger and Black Panther leader Bobby Seale for their protests at the Democratic National Convention of 1968. One of the heftiest punishments of contempt of court ever, William Kunstler was sentenced to 4 years in prison for his actions in one of the most circus-like, kangaroo court trials of the 20th Century. David and Goliath in America explores whether Kunstler was driven by a passion for justice or the lure of fame.
