About This Show

The battle of the sexes gets a Victorian twist in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Princess Ida, as a feminist princess runs away from home to take control of a women’s university. Her promised husband, Prince Hilarion, and two of his friends disguise themselves as women to infiltrate the university, only to be captured and held hostage as war breaks out between his lover’s female troops and his father’s male army. One of Gilbert & Sullivan’s greatest scores, Princess Ida finds the English masters at their best, combining Gilbert’s witty lyrics and Sullivan’s sweeping, dramatic tunes to create a musical comedy/drama that will stir audiences of all ages.
