About This Show

A Long Island native, Jane Monheit grew up in Oakdale. The daughter of two musicians – her father plays Bluegrass banjo music and her mother is involved in musical theater – Jane knew at an early age what her calling would be. Monheit, having been heavily influenced by the music of Ella Fitzgerald, knew that she wanted to pursue Jazz music.

Jane Monheit attended the Manhattan School of Music and at the age of 20 won first runner-up prize at the 1998 Thelonius Monk Institute Vocal Competition. Her performance led to her breakthrough album in 2000 – Never Never Land – which was an instant success. Today Jane Monheit is firmly established as one of the post-millenial Jazz world’s foremost vocalists.
