Jules Eckert Goodman’s adaptation Treasure Island is a superlative dramatization, with worlds of excitement. The action starts at the Admiral Benbow Inn, where an old captain is given the death mark by a band of pirates. Young Jim Hawkins falls heir to a treasure map, and soon sails with his masters to Treasure Island. The ship is manned, though they know it not, by a crew comprised mostly of pirates. A mutiny arises, and a fight on the island ensues, with young Jim proving his mettle. Traditionally considered a coming of age story, it is an adventure tale known for its superb atmosphere, character and action, and also a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality–as seen in Long John Silver.
The Scenes unfold as audiences hike along the Morton Arboretum.
