About This Show

Erasing the Distance: The People I Know is an original production comprised of six monologues chronicling the true stories of people whose lives have been impacted by mental illness. Many people who struggle with maintaining mental health often feel isolated, alone, and without the resources or support to get better. Because of fear, shame, or uncertainty, they keep their experiences hidden, often don’t seek help, or opt to self-medicate using such things as nicotine, alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, or co-dependence on others. That does not have to be the case.

In order to break the cycle of secrecy, Erasing the Distance: The People I Know addresses mental health and illness issues such as Depression (including Post Partum), Bi-Polar, Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Suicide, Eating Disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress and Schizophrenic Symptoms, and the decision of whether or not to use psychiatric medication. The storytellers themselves, as well as professional actors, make up the ensemble of performers. Each performance is followed by an interactive dialogue with the audience and cast.
